The San Diego Bluegrass Society (SDBS) at: http://www.sandiegobluegrass.org/, frequently partners with the North County Bluegrass & Folk Club (NCBFC) in hosting and supporting opportunities to play live music throughout San Diego county, and beyond. Both organizations co-sponsor Bluegrass Day at the San Diego County Fair, and “The Compound,” located at Summergrass, southern California’s finest bluegrass festival. We share suites at the South State 48 and Great 48. Many San Diegans are members of both SDBS and NCBFC and we mutually support jams, open mics, concerts, campouts, and other fun.
SDBS was formerly a partner with NCBFC from 2003 to 2021, producing Summergrass, San Diego until the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum, at our joint request, stepped in to replace both SDBS and NCBFC as the nonprofit sponsor. SDBS and NCBFC remain strong supporters of Summergrass, by serving as volunteers at the festival site and providing financial support to the Summergrass, their Kid’s Program, and “The Compound,” which everyone who is anyone knows is fun central.
SDBS currently hosts open mics, music nights with lots of jamming, pick up bands, “featured bands,” and an instructional Slow Jam. SDBS hosts periodic concerts for nationally touring artists. SDBS also sponsors Emma’s Gut Bucket Band, which brings a free music program to schools both public and private, to community centers, assisted living facilities, and the like.
